Wondering if there are anti-aging foods that can really help us win the war on wrinkles? And if so, what those foods are?
We all know that what we eat has a profound effect on our overall health.
We also know that the things we put into our bodies - like cigarettes and alcohol - will also speed up the wrinkle (and aging) process.
This is what my good friend, and naturopathic doctor (Lina M) had to say:
"The best thing for healthy skin is to eat lots of antioxidant-containing foods (i.e., fruits and vegetables), to get adequate protein in the diet, to drink lots of water, and exercise regularly. There are no magic bullets."
Based on that, I put together a list of foods high in antioxidants as well some other vitamins and minerals that are fabulous for anti wrinkle skincare.
We all know that looking good on the outside relies heavily on how we nourish our bodies. And it's no suprise that eating the best antioxidant foods is a major contributor to maintaining our youthful appearance - while fighting cancer and a multitude of other age-related diseases at the same time!
The good news is that we have come to learn ALOT about antioxidants and anti aging foods. AND, as you have probably noticed with all the antioxidant berry buzz over the years, there's no shortage of yummy foods which are rich in antioxidants!
Most of these food items are also rich in things like Beta Carotene and Vitamin E which are also important in anti wrinkle care.
When I make my own anti wrinkle face cream there is one ingredient I NEVER leave out - Carrot Root Oil! It has more Vitamin A than any other carrier oil and is a MAJOR wrinkle buster!
And it's just as valuable injested. In addition to the obvious (carrots) other some fabulous anti-aging foods high in Vitamin A (or beta carotene) include boiled spinach, kale, cantaloupe, apricots, and mango.
Vitamin E applied directly to the skin, or in your cream is amazing for anti wrinkle care. It helps ALOT with dry skin and will even help your skin maintain it's natural oils.
Some great foods high in vitamin E includes sunflower seeds, almonds (dry roasted), olives, boiled spinach, and papaya.
It’s no secret that British sailors used it to stop scurvy centuries ago and it’s used worldwide to support our immune systems. Don’t underestimate the benefits of vitamin C for your skin and your diet.
Some of the lesser known benefits of vitamin C make it an essential ingredient for skin care and face creams. New research suggests that it could help reverse DNA damage and help prevent the consequences of long-term sun exposure.
If you have low levels of Omega3 in your body, you'll most likely have dry skin. And dry skin is a like a welcome-matt for wrinkles and tired-looking skin!
And not only that, Omega 3 fatty acids are also said to be able to protect the skin from UV (aka. photo aging). And while you shouldn't use this in place of sunscreens, it really can be one extra thing that really works as an anti wrinkle solution.
