Interested in learning about antioxidant dietary supplements for anti-aging?
Just this month there was an excellent article in a local health paper about the top 5 anti aging nutritional supplements, making this a timely time to bring this information to you.
This article called them the "Network Antoxidants". Long story short, it's important to take all of these anti-aging nutrional supplements together because each of them supports the effectiveness of the other.
Antioxidant dietary supplements are meant to help slow down oxidative damage - damage that results in heart disease, cancer, diabetes, macular damage and even aging (gasp!).
Do they work for skin though?
There's a lot of research on the effectiveness of these antioxidant dieatry supplements on our bodies - but not alot of it is directly specifically at the skin. BUT, since our skins health is directly related to that of our bodies there does seem to be a logic to the the fact that antioxidant dietary supplements are helpful.
Here are the 5 Network Antioxidant Dietary Supplements For Anti Aging (and general health!)
As a women nearing the end of her reproductive years, I do know that this is an important new vitamin in reproductive health. BUT, it's also fantastic for the skin.
It is thought that CoQ10 can help produce collagen, elastin and other important skin molecules (is all this science talk boring you yet?). it is also thought that CoQ10-depleted skin might be more prone to damage by free radicals. It is believed that CoQ10 can also boost skin repair and regeneration.
There have actually been tests done (by a Doctor named Dr. Packer) which prove that alpha liphoic acid squashes those nasty free radicals protecting the vitamins (the keep us healthy and youthful) in your body.
Dr. Perricone (another fan of ALA) says that it helps with the elimination of damaged collagen which results in the erasing (or maybe he means reduction) of wrinkles.
A lot of medical professional consider it to be the most powerful antioxidant. Pity that it starts decline in our bodies bu 8-12% per decade starting in our 20's!
What makes this anti aging nutritional supplement so important is the fact that it acts to reconstitute the antioxidant vitamins C and E after they have been oxidized.
There's no question that taken internally vitamin C is an extremely valuable vitamin for anti aging and health in general. But, the question I want to answer is "Will it help with wrinkles?".
The general consensus I have found is that 500-1000 mg is needed to be effective for both skincare and body care.
I'm a big fan of using oodles of vitamin E right in my homemade skin cream. But, there's also a HUGE benefit in taking vitamin E supplements on a daily basis.
Vitamin E has been one of the most popular anti oxidant dieatry supplements and continues to be a major contributor to your anti aging health and appearance.
Let's face it, I'm only human. I might be pretty darned smart, but I don't know EVERYTHING ;)
