The Oil of Olay Regenerist series includes 24 different products. This particular line is meant to improve the look of skin "without resorting to drastic measures".
By drastic measures I am assuming they mean things like invasive anti wrinkle treatments, chemical peels, and harsher anti wrinkle creams.
The main ingredient in this oil of olay anti wrinkle line is amino peptide, which is often referred to as a "safe and effective botox" alternative. But don't go out and buy any ole product that contains it. Why?
Amino Peptides work better when combined with other products. Palmitoyl (Matirxyl) is the most important. However, Vitamin E, Tea extracts, Vitamin C, Retinol, Peptides, Growth Factors, and Alpha Hydroxy Acids can also be combined for greater effectiveness.
Interestingly I don't see Palmitoyl (Matirxyl) in the ingredient list of any Oil of Olay Regenerist products. But, without being a chemist I can't say for certain if their other chemical ingredients work together for a simialar effect. What I do know is that this oil of olay product contains a lot fo the scary (aka. unhealthy and not very eco-friendly) ingredients you'd find in almost any other non-natural skincare product on the market.
Lots of people swear by Oil of Olay products. And if you can't afford a totally organic and chemeical-free product or don't want to make your own I'm not really sure why you 'need' to get one of the more expensive products if this works for you - Especially if you're just starting out and experimenting with anti wrinkle creams. All of them contain one bad ingredient or another so as long as it works (and you can afford it) there's no reason to switch.
So... about those 24 Oil of Olay Regenerist products - Wholly crap eh! TWENTY FOUR in ONE anti wrinkle series! No wonder we want to lose our minds when stepping into a drugstore!
Below is some info from reviews at MakeupAlley.com to help you determine which of the oil of olay products will work for you. I've tried to organize them into sections so that it's a little bit easier for you to go through.
Regenerist Reversal Treatment Foam
Several reviews on this product state that it helps makeup to look fresh all day long. However, some people with sensitive skin have found that after several months of use their skin becomes sensitive to it.
Regenerist Deep Hydration Regenerating Cream
If you're not into scented creams this cream isn't for you - it's super perfumey. Lots of people love the packaging and the texture. People with sensitive skin end up breaking out after a week or two of use.
Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream
It may reduce the appearance of wrinkles, however some people complain about breakouts. Some of have gone so far to say that it's too heavy for a day cream unless you live in a in super dry climate (i.e. Arizona).
Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion with SPF 50
The ingredients that create UV protection can create problems for any skin type and like any other UV cream this one gets mixed reviews. For the cost, it's quite small and to make it even worse you end up wasting a whole bunch of it because the packaging makes it impossible to use. Annoying!
Regenerist Filling + Sealing Wrinkle Treatment
Even though the tube is super small you need very little to actually coat your face so it should last a fair amount of time. Having said that, it's still to expensive considering it doesn't actually work to reduce wrinkles.
Regenerist Fragrance-Free Regenerating Serum
Interestingly this product has actually helped reduce the look of dark circles around the eyes. People with sensitive skin don't complain of breakouts and people with oily skin like the texture. BUT it doesn't reduce wrinkles.
Regenerist Regenerating Serum
Not a great cream for people with sensitive, oily or combination skin - hello zits! On paper it's a great product with ingredients that SHOULD work - and that's why Paula Begoun recommends it. In the end, it just doesn't work.
Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Serum
This product seems to be the winner for Oil of Olay Regenerist creams. The scent doesn't get great reviews, but there aren't alot of complaints about it affecting sensitive skin. Does it work? Hard to say - some people claim that after a full week they started noticing a difference.
Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir
Some people claim that it helps with dark spots around the eyes and mouth. It seems to help people with small crows feet, but doesn't do much for deeper wrinkles. It contains smaller amounts of AHA's so it would be one of the safer AHA products for people with sensitive skin.
Regenerist Night Recovery Cream
This cream is marketed as a "mini lift while you sleep". Apparently the amino peptides are time released so that they are released all night long. SonyaHatesAcne is confident that it helped with her small wrinkles/crows feet and acne scars.
Regenerist Eye Regenerating Cream + Touch of Concealer
This eye cream is meant to reduce and improve the appearance of the dark circles around the eyes that naturally come with aging. This is a fragance-free product, is meant for daily use. Most reviews for this product are quite postive.
Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum
This product was created to moisturize the eye area and to smooth small wrinkles and lift the skins appearance around the eyes. Some people believe that the product worked better a few years ago and has been modified since.
Regenerist Eye Derma-Pod Anti Aging Triple Response System
This product is helpful for people with puffiness and circles around the eyes. It is also supposed to fill lines and creases in wrinkles.
Regenerist Anti Aging Eye Roller
Even though the look and name of the product make it seem impressive, it's not. The reviews for this product are low to average.
Regenerist Thermal Mini-Peel
The texture, scent and application of this product is appealing to alot of people. It doesn't seem to help with the reduction of wrinkles though.
Regenerist Microdermabrasion & Peel System
Even though the Olay Microdermabrasion product has received some rave reviews some people have experienced serious skin reactions to it. If you've used "Philosophy's Microdelivery Peel" and liked it this product might be for you as some have said that the result, texture and scent is very similar.
Regenerist Lip Anti Aging Concentrate
This product was created to help promote the creation of new layers on the lips. Not only is it quite expensive as a one-off but it seems to make your lips dependant on it.
Regenerist Detoxifying Pore Scrub
There are actually quite a lot of good reviews for this product. However, a few people have broken out because of it so if you give this a try start out slowly and test first.
Regenerist Micro-Exfoliating Wet Cleansing Cloths
Cleansing cloths seem like such a wierd trend given all of the eco-troubles we're facing so for that reason alone this product seems like a bust. With that said though, some people love it!
Regenerist Regenerating Cream Cleanser
Now here's an Oil of Olay product with a lot of good reviews! It seems to leave skin feeling smooth AND bright while helping to reduce blackheads and clogged pores.
Regenerist Micro-Derm Cleansing Cloths
Once again, gotta say that these cleansing cloths are a bizarre product in these eco-sensitive times AND they don't even get many good reviews for their ability to remove makeup. Fail!
Regenerist Micro-Purifying Foaming Cleanser
This was created as a super deep cleanser. For those of you with dry sensitive skin, this cleanser might be for you. It seems to be relatively gentle though some people still react badly to it.
Regenerist Skin Care Starter Trio Pack
Includes the 5 oz's each of Olay Daily Regenerating Cleanser, The Olay Regenerist Deep Hydration Regenerating Cream, and The Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum.
Regenerist 14-Day Skin Intervention
Includes 14 mini tubes - one to be used every night for 14 days. Not exactly eco-friendly?! Day 1-7 are supposed to "ignite cellular regeneration on the surface. Day 8-14 is supposed to help fill wrinkles.
