The Oil of Olay Microdermabrasion & Peel System is an at-home microdermabrasion kit in the Olay Regenerist anti-wrinkle skin care line. It was created by Olay to satisfy the demand for an inexpensive at home “Microdermabrasion” treatment.  

As a whole, “Microdermabrasion” refers to quite a large group of devices that remove a superficial layer of the skin - the stratum corneum.

It is believed that this treatment can help with enlarged pores, blackheads and some scarring. BUT the main use for this treatment is to reduce fine lines, age spots and brown spots.

Some microdermabrasion techniques include paddles or crystals and can be very abrasive. And often, if you visit a technician for an anti wrinkle treatment they will combine a microdermabrasion treatment with a chemical peel for even more dramatic results.

And that’s exactly what the Oil of Olay Microdermabrasion & Peel System has mirrored for their inexpensive at home microdermabrasion system. And it certainly is cheaper in comparison - the cost for the kit is about $18US.

What’s it like for sensitive skin...and does it work?

Any description that includes the word “abrasive” is bound to scare off people with sensitive skin - myself included. And after reading a bunch of reviews about it online I still have mixed feelings. Some people swear by it while others want to banish it and Olay to hell for days of blemishes and red, irritated skin.

My final thoughts on Oil of Olay Microdermabrasion

If you use it, don’t use it every day. Use it once or twice a week. If you have sensitive skin, use it even less frequently.  AND don’t expect it to get rid of deeper wrinkles, acne scars or to experience long lasting effects (eg. if you stop using it for a month the effects will be gone) even for fine wrinkles and blemishes.

The most you can/should expect from this product is smoother and more glowing skin for a finite period of time.
